First Congregational Church

A memorial service for Brad will be held on Saturday, February 11 at  3 p.m. in the Sanctuary. 

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that gestures in memory of Brad be offered in the name of Bradley Clark Jones to the Wounded Warrior Project (online at www.woundedwarriorproject.org or by mail to 4899 Belfort Road, Ste. 300, Jacksonville, FL 32256.

Our major annual fund-raiser is coming soon, a collaboration with the Fresno Grand Opera Chorus. Tickets are now available to be sold, and can be gotten through the church office.

In addition, mailings have gone out to each household with encouragement to secure sponsors from local businesses/ business people. Dollars from these, our sponsors, go directly against our deficit. Through the combination of ticket sales, a silent auction, and sponsors, we hope to significantly reduce the deficit.

We are also seeking donations for Silent Auction items such as vacation condos or houses.  Also, we are requesting gift baskets or any other items you can donate to make it again a successful event.

“Saving Paradise…” is the 2012 theme for ISW with keynote speaker and author Rev. Rita Nakashima Brock.

This DVD-inspired discussion begins at 6 p.m. in the Parlor. The popular Living the Questions format, as it under takes to explore significant women figures in our faith story. Participants are welcome to bring a supper.   

Sacred Pursuits is an opportunity for people to explore and examine matters of faith through scripture and the teachings of faith. It is at once traditional, con-temporary, and speculative.

To be discussed…Planning for Pride Parade & Festival

The 2012 Lenten Season begins with our annual Ash Wednesday observance. Beginning at 7:00 pm, this year the theme of “Ash, Grace, Communion” will highlight the observance. The Chancel Choir will participate, and infant care will be provided in the nursery.

Lent is a 40 day period which culminates with Easter morning.   Typically, Protestant, Catholic, and Orthodox Christians utilize this period for spiritual practices during Lent: prayer (justicetowards God), fasting (justice towards self), and almsgiving (justice towards neighbor).

Rev. Dr. Chris Breedlove will be officially installed as pastor at College Community Congregational Church-United Church of Christ at 3:00 pm, on Sunday, February 26.All area UCC congregations are invited to attend. Pastor Norman has been asked to deliver the charge to Pastor Chris.

A reception in Haden Hall will fellow the installation.

Online registrations are now being taken for the 2012 Annual Gathering in Redwood City for the Northern California Nevada Conference of the United Church of Christ.

We are accorded three voting delegates, although visitors are welcome. Anyone attending, for any portion- or all- of the Gathering are required to register.

A time for GLBTIQ Christians and their allies to come together and discuss the biblical and theological issues surrounding our sexual orientation and gender identity from an open and affirming perspective. All are welcome.
