About Our Pastor

Norman Broadbent

Norman Broadbent

Rev. Dr. Norman Broadbent began his ministry at First Congregational Church of Fresno, United Church  of Christ, in March of 2007.  Earning his degrees at Pacific School of Religion-Berkeley, and The School of Theology at Claremont, he has held previous pastorates in:  St. Paul, MN;  in La Mesa, CA;  in Ashland, OR;  and in Phoenix, AZ.

Immediately prior to his call to Fresno, Rev. Dr. Broadbent served as Executive Director of the Russian Farm Community Project (Minneapolis/Dmitrov) division of Community,  Health, and Social Services.   He continues to co-lead spiritual pilgrimages to Russia, for non-Orthodox interested in how icons, culture and history can impact Protestant understanding of spirituality.

Married to Jan Pfeninger Broadbent, he is father to three sons, and two foster daughters.

A musician and hymnist, his compositions have been used in congregations across the country.  His particular passions in his work are for the open and affirming worship life, and for the teaching ministry of the church.

Currently Norman serves as Dean of the Sequoia Association- Northern California Nevada Conference UCC;  as a member of the NCCUCC Annual Gathering Planning Team; and as a Member of the NCNCUCC Ethics Committee.  Locally, he serves on the Board of Directors to Fresno Metro Ministries, and as its Vice-President.
